Keep your Kapha balanced this spring.
Ayurveda says every dosha goes through a series of changes naturally as the seasons change. Kapha dosha starts to accumalate in late winter and aggravates in Spring making spring a Kapha season.
Winter’s accumulated snow and ice are beginning to melt and the earth becomes heavy with moisture leading to gentle and nurturing growth in the nature.The accumulated kapha starts to liquify due to the rising heat resulting in colds, coughs, allergies. flu and other respiratory disorders. Sankrit word Kapha means that which flourishes in water.
Early signs of Kapha imbalance-
Excess mucus
Thick white coat on tongue
Slow sticky sluggish bowel movements
Increase in body weight
Difficulty rising in the morning
Feeling slow, sluggish, foggy, dull, lethargic, heavy
Easily attached and possessive, overly sentimental, complacent or stubborn
Emotional overeating.
Things to avoid–
Heavy and watery foods-sweet potato, zucchini, avocado, olives, cucumbers.
Oily and deep fried food.
Sweet, sour, salty tastes
Heavy or sour fruits like oranges, bananas, pineapples, figs, dates, coconuts, and melons
Minimize your intake of dairy products—especially in the morning
Fast food, sweets, soy products, Nuts, excess bread, chilled and refrigerated foods.
Daytime napping
Sedentary lifestyle.
Lifestyle for spring-
Waking up by or before 6am.
Massaging skin with warm sesame oil before hot shower.
Wear bright yellow, orange, reds.
Exercise at least 45mins to 1 hour everyday.
Yoga-Sun salutations, Warrior 1 and 2, forward bends, chest openers, backward bends, cobra, cow, side plank, leg lifts, twists.
Pranayama- Kapalbhati and bhastrika.
Ideal season for weight loss.
